Bobbie Wygant was born in Lafayette, Indiana, as Roberta Frances Connolly on November 22, 1926.

Bobbie and her husband Phil Wygant came to Texas after college.

According to her, she always wanted to come to Texas.

“I was always in love with Texas. When I was a little kid I guess, movies and things, I just always knew that someday I would go to Texas,” Wygant said.

She had a degree in broadcasting and psychology from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana.

Bobbie Wygant started at NCB 5 behind the scenes but eventually hosted live game shows and commercials and produced and hosted a live talk show, Dateline.

“I was the first woman to host a general interest television talk show. Before that women had to do the housekeeping things and the cooking and so forth.” Wygant recalled.

“The staff was ‘moi!’ I produced it. I did my own research,” Wygant said.

Bobbie Wygant eventually transitioned into an arts and entertainment reporter for the station.

She soon became known for the way she connected with celebrities, authors, and other newsmakers who stopped by Fort Worth to be interviewed by her.

She is noted for her celebrity interviews everyone from Bob Hope to Bradley Cooper.

Bobbie was the first woman in the Southwest to host a general interest talk show and the first broadcaster in the Southwest to present theater and movie reviews on television.

In 2000, Bobbie received the “Critic’s Critic Award” from her peer group the National Broadcast Film Critics Association in Los Angeles.

In 2004, she received a National Emmy in Houston making her the 17th American broadcaster to be elected into its prestigious Gold Circle for 50 years of broadcasting achievement.

In 2018 Bobbie wrote her memoir Talking to the Stars: Bobbie Wygant’s Seventy Years in Television.

Bobbie’s most challenging on-air experience was Nov. 22, 1963 when her 30-minute talk show was interrupted six or seven times with bulletins about the John F. Kennedy assassination.
